25 Under-The-Radar Rom-Coms Every Hopeless Romantic Should See At Least Once In Their Life

Deliver Us from Eva is an absolute masterpiece!

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us their favorite underrated rom-coms, and, boy, did they deliver. Here are the brilliant results:

1.

Penelope (2006)

Summit Entertainment

Penelope is such a slept-on movie! It’s my go-to movie for when I’m feeling crappy. It stresses the importance of self-love and acceptance, and has the heroine ‘saving herself’ before she gets the guy. Plus, it’s cute, funny, and has a great cast led by Christina Ricci. Catherine O’Hara, Peter Dinklage, Reese Witherspoon, and James McAvoy do spectacular jobs as well.”

Someone Great (2019)

Netflix

Someone Great is severely underrated! It’s beautifully written and totally original. The acting is wonderful, the story is realistic, and it’s a fun and modern take on love.”

3.

About Time (2013)

Universal Pictures

“Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams do an amazing job with the romance aspect of the movie, but where most rom-coms end with the couple getting together, this one moves forward with a beautiful story about living each day to the fullest. Unlike most stories about time travel, this one has nothing to do with saving the world or preventing terrible disasters, and has everything to do with love, family, and life. It’s one of those movies that will stick with you for a few days after.”

6.

A Lot Like Love (2005)

Buena Vista Pictures

A Lot Like Love with Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher is one of my absolute favorites! There’s something about it that feels more realistic than others. The way the characters cross paths over the years as they continue to grow up, but never have the right timing, is so brilliant and good.”

Half Magic (2018)

The Bubble Factory

Half Magic with Heather Graham, Stephanie Beatriz, and Angela Kinsey is all about sisterhood with a lot of sex and romance at the same time. It’s perfect in every way, and I don’t know anyone else who has watched it!”

Set It Up (2018)

Netflix

Set It Up is one of my absolute favorite rom-coms! It has a stellar cast — Zoey Deutch, Lucy Liu, Taye Diggs, Glen Powell, Tituss Burgess — and is so funny and heartfelt. It’s a new twist on the classic rom-com tropes and features strong women and vulnerable men. It definitely deserves more love!”

14.

10 Years (2011)

Anchor Bay Films

“I’m always surprised when people say they haven’t seen 10 Years because it has such a star-studded cast. It literally stars Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Chris Pratt, Jenna Dewan, Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza, and pre-fame Oscar Isaac! Outside of the cast, the movie follows a group of friends as they attend their 10-year reunion. They’re all confronted with their past selves, what they want for their futures, and whether they’ll actually go for it. It’s honestly such a cute little movie.”

The Way He Looks (2014)

Lacuna Filmes

The Way He Looks is an underrated LGBTQ movie. It’s about a teenager who’s blind and searches for his own independence. He develops a crush on the new kid at school, and you sort of follow their will-they-won’t-they relationship. I won’t spoil anything, but trust me when I say that it’s an extremely cute movie.”

Jumping the Broom (2011)

TriStar Pictures

20.

Must Love Dogs (2005)

Warner Bros. Pictures

“It has a fairly cookie-cutter premise: two divorcees try to get back out there and suffer through disastrous dates with others, but they keep missing their moment. Diane Lane and John Cusack are terrific and relatable as the leads, and there are many sweet moments you wouldn’t expect. It makes me laugh and smile every time I watch it — and, yes, there are dogs.”
