Emilia Clarke Called The Backlash To The “Game Of Thrones” Finale “Flattering On Every Level”

In fact, a petition for the final season to be remade with “competent writers” (the petition’s words, not mine) has been signed more than 1.7million times, and still counting.

In a recent interview with Stellar magazine, Emilia Clarke — who played Daenerys Targaryen for all eight seasons of the show — said she was “heartbroken” over the negative feedback on behalf of the show’s creators, David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

But during a new interview on This Morning, Emilia said the backlash was actually “profoundly flattering”.

“On every level, it’s just profoundly flattering that people genuinely cared that much,” she said. “They were with us for that long, and they really, really, truly believed in it.”

She also said that while she doesn’t read things about herself online, she got the impression that most people were on Daenerys’ side in the whole debate.

She said: “I don’t read anything online really, because it doesn’t help my brain, but largely speaking I feel like people are being very kind about Daenerys and about the Mother of Dragons and kind of backing me up, so that’s really lovely to hear.”

“I don’t think that there’s an ending that anyone could’ve written — no matter how many signatures are on any bit of paper — you just can’t,” Emilia concluded, “and that is really just so flattering.”
